Privacy notice — Demo for Campaigns Hub
This page tells you exactly what data this campaign collects, why, and how long The Jewish Activist keeps it. Your other rights (access, rectification, erasure) are handled platform-wide on the platform privacy page.
Who's the data controller?
The Jewish Activist runs this campaign and is the data controller for the personal data you give it. The platform (Action on Antisemitism) processes data on The Jewish Activist's behalf as a sub-processor.
What data this campaign collects
- Your name — to address the email / sign the petition.
- Your postcode — to look up your MP / councillor. The postcode is sent to the UK Parliament Members API.
- Your full address (street + town) — pasted into the email body so the MP's office can verify you live in their seat (UK MPs only respond to constituents). The address is never stored on our servers — it goes straight from your browser into the message you send.
- Your email address — in two ways. If you tick the optional reminder box, we store the address you give so we can nudge you if your email never arrives at the MP. Separately, because your message is blind-copied (BCC'd) to our tracking address, that copy shows the From address of your own email account: we read and store it to attribute the send to you and credit you as an active supporter — even if you don't tick the reminder box. We don't use this address to email you unless you separately opted in, and you can have it erased (see Your rights).
- Hashed IP address + browser user-agent — for rate-limiting and fraud prevention. Not used for tracking.
Why we collect it (lawful basis)
- Public interest / democratic engagement (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(e)) — facilitating contact between constituents and their representatives.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for the optional reminder email and any subscription to The Jewish Activist's alerts.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to read the From address of your BCC'd send and link it to your action, so The Jewish Activist can measure the reach of its campaigns and credit the people who take part. You knowingly include our BCC address and choose to send the message, and you can object or ask us to erase the address at any time.
Who else sees it
- Your email body, name and recipient choice are sent from your email client to your representative — we don't send the message ourselves.
- We BCC a tracking address so The Jewish Activist can see how many emails were actually delivered. The MP only sees the To/Cc.
- The Jewish Activist's admins can see aggregated statistics + a record that "an email was sent to MP X by someone in postcode SW1A". The email address you sent from is attached to that record (read from the BCC copy) so the send can be credited to you, whether or not you ticked the reminder box. Your name and full address are never stored and so are not visible to them.
How long we keep it
Event data (clicks, sends, lookups) is retained for 1825 days. After that it's deleted in our weekly retention sweep.
